Aims

To provide students at KS4 and KS5 with a high standard of knowledge and understanding of a variety of business topics linked to real businesses, both locally, nationally and internationally.

Curriculum Content

KS4 – Business studies is taught via the Applied GCSE route which can lead to 2 GCSEs at all grade levels.  The course allows students to study a business of their choice (or use a provided case study) and from 2009 has a module covering enterprise development.

KS5 – Applied Business at GCE level is concerning with students looking at starting their own business, developing marketing strategies and understanding the importance of good working relations to help businesses grow.  At AS the course has two units of coursework and one external examination.  At A2 the course has one controlled assignment undertaken in examination conditions at a computer and a choice of either two coursework units or one coursework and an examination.

Upcoming Events & Trips

Every year the department likes to organize at least one trip to a local business, get a local business speaker to talk to the students and organize an enrichment trip to study a local tourist attraction. These trips vary according to the availability of our local business contacts.
