Message from the Headteacher
Bicester Community College is a Specialist Technology College and is known for its leadership in personalised learning. It works closely with other partner schools to deliver quality education which is tailored to the strengths and talents of individual students and at the same time meets local and national needs. It runs a flexible curriculum offer with a wide range of courses at KS4 and in the Sixth Form and offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities. In particular the PE and Performing Arts Department regularly engage hundreds of our students in activities which promote their gifts and talents and encourage them in high standards of individual performance and team spirit. Other departments and year groups organize support in many forms ranging from after-school ‘catch-up’ sessions to residential experiences at home and abroad.
The values of the College centre on the Golden Rule, which is, in the form of the College motto ‘Unto Thyself So to Others. Learning is of course about reaching potential and aiming for academic excellence. It is also about drawing out of individuals the qualities which will make them good citizens in the years to come. We emphasise tolerance and a respect for difference. Education is about listening to other people, about making and keeping relationships and about a willingness and a determination to keep on learning. We want our students to do well academically, and we are right to have high expectations of them. We also want them to be well-adjusted, confident people, who understand happiness and recognise justice, know when to stand firm and when to praise, and who will make caring and supportive parents of the next generation.
