College Launches 'Women who Inspire' in Conjunction with Bicester Vision
As part of its ongoing ethos of ‘Achieve and Inspire’, Bicester Community College has recently launched an initiative to inspire a group of Year 11 students in their studies and career choices. These thirty girls have been selected from all academic abilities to meet on a weekly basis each Friday before lessons, sharing breakfast and discussing subjects like what motivates us and why sometimes girls require a different form of motivation from boys. So far the group has learned a great deal and with helpful feedback from their subject leaders and form tutors have applied what they have learned to their studies to positive effect.
Since Bicester has a number of organisations with successful and inspirational businesswomen, the College wanted the students to see how different women achieved success, what their inspiration was and how they motivated themselves. This need not necessarily be academic success, but also the personal skills that enabled individuals to shine in their chosen career. Therefore the College had in mind to invite guest speakers from the business community to come in for fifteen minutes each Friday morning to talk to the group.
Rachel Faulkner at Bicester Vision kindly offered to support the College by contacting Bicester businesswomen herself. The response has been tremendous with the diary booked for many weeks to come. 'The partners of Bicester Vision are really excited to be working with the College on this initiative. There are many inspiring and successul working women in Bicester who are happy to give their time to tell the girls about their careers histories and what motivates them to succeed. I spoke to the group this morning and was really encouraged by their enthusiasm and ambition.'
Heading up this initiative for Bicester Community College, Head of Geography, Kerri Knibbs, has been delighted at the success of ‘Women Who Inspire’ and Bicester Vision’s support ‘I would like to thank Rachel at Bicester Vision for enhancing ’Women Who Inspire’ for our students by her kind offer of support. It is wonderful that the community can come together in this inspirational way for the benefit of our students and it means a lot to us that the girls will be able to meet and find out more about the successful businesswomen in our town.’
