Year 9 Student Selected for England Under 15s Squad

On the back of her success at being selected to join the Arsenal Football Club Academy, Year 9 student at Bicester Community College, Lauren Haynes, was invited to a four day football trial for the England Under 15s Squad at Lillishore (Telford) at the end of October.

On the first day the trialists had a fitness test, a speed test and an agility test; the second day saw a two and a half hour training session on defending; the third day a session on attacking and on the final day the thirty girls were split in to two teams and they had a 30 x 30 minute thirds match. The standard of play was very high with each player trying to achieve their best performance for this important showcase.

Over thirty girls from different Centres of Excellence around the country were selected for the trials and the competition was fierce. England Scouts came to watch the Centre of Excellence matches and were given match reports on the players they were looking at. Different scouts watched a variety of matches in order to come up with their final shortlist.

When it was announced at Christmas that nineteen of the 30 trialists were selected for the England Under 15s Squad, Lauren was delighted to hear she was one of them! Since her selection she has also been invited to attend an Under 17s England fitness testing session too. Her dream of becoming a professional footballer is now becoming even more of a reality and students and staff at Bicester Community College are delighted at her success. Acting Headteacher, Jane Causon, said ‘Lauren has shown tremendous determination and focus to develop her fitness and football skills to this level and it’s a credit to her consistent effort that the England Scouts have chosen her to join the England Under 15 Squad.
