Talented Students Stage 'Bugsy Malone'
‘An absolutely superb production which showed how multi-talented these students are: amazing!’
‘Brilliant, really entertaining, great casting, great dancing, great music and great voices!’
‘A vibrant and engaging performance where everybody was a star!’
The student production of Bugsy Malone at Artsmark Gold Award winning Bicester Community College has been a resounding success and was enjoyed by over one thousand members of the local Bicester Community. This popular musical tells the story of rival gangster gangs and the quest of Fat Sam Stacetto to source his own splurge gun by engaging the help of smooth city slicker Bugsy Malone. Superbly cast Greg Joy as Bugsy, Kirtsy Ralston as Blousey Brown and David Ingrham as Fat Sam gave an inspired performance. Alexa Burton as Tallulah, Marcus Stevenson as Dandy Dan, Adam Hale as Captain Smolsky, Michael Deacon as O’Deary and Sonja Townsend as Fizzy provided excellent support roles and together with Alex Davis as Leroy and Ryan Benford as Cagey Joe ensured the production was consistently engaging and entertaining. The choreography, costumes and excellent music support added nostalgia and authenticity to the show.
Head of Performing Arts, Julia Papworth, said ‘The students have really stretched themselves in Bugsy Malone and rose to the challenge of a demanding musical. They have demonstrated that they can weave their talents together to produce a professional performance and this production shows the versatility of our students’ ability and how they embrace the essence of a production. It has been wonderful to see the whole team go from strength to strength: not just the performers on stage, but also the students involved backstage managing the sound, lighting, hair, costumes and the scene painting. We are tremendously proud of them all and they are a credit to the College!’
